Exercise Therapy
At Tranquility Woods, we believe that exercise therapy is imperative to our treatment program. A healthy lifestyle, including exercise, nutrition, and recreational activities, are essential to relapse prevention. Tranquility Woods offers regular exercise instruction, both on and off-site as part of our residential program.
By replacing destructive lifestyle habits with healthy habits during your stay at Tranquility Woods, you will learn skills to transform your body, in addition to your mind. You will become a whole person. Regular exercise will help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and increase everyday energy ~ All of which can greatly assist in achieving sustainable sobriety.
The Importance of Exercise in Recovery
Whether it’s getting into the gym to lift weights or hiking, exercise can have a major impact on the rehabilitation process. Exercise counteracts anxiety and depression, which are feelings and states of mind that can undermine treatment and recovery.
Not only does exercise physically change your brain and body for the better, but it builds confidence and self-esteem. While it may not provide the instantaneous rush that drugs or alcohol provide, over time it offers a diffuse sense of well-being that becomes a craving in its own right and has been proven to significantly help some clients stay sober.
