Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is possibly our most popular Holistic Therapy. We live in a world today that no longer teaches us how to relax both physically and mentally. Massage helps individuals, especially clients struggling with substance use disorder, to connect with their bodies ~ people struggling with substance use disorder are often not present in their own bodies. Unlike most conventional talk therapies, massage is focused on the temple that houses our mind and spirit. Massage therapy is a mixture of hands-on and client self-care techniques that are used to treat addiction, body pain, stress, exhaustion, and anxiety. Massage helps bring clients struggling with substance use disorder back into their true selves by helping them experience the present moment ~ they begin to feel again. Massage can help calm the mind and amplify positive emotions while they relax. Massage helps with the physical and emotional issues of recovery, including physical pain, anxiety, agitation, anger, and sleep disorders. During withdrawal, the brain decreases its output of serotonin, dopamine, and cortisol, which are artificially stimulated during drug use. These chemicals are responsible for stress reduction, happiness, and energy. Consequently, recovery can be very uncomfortable. Massage helps to stimulate these chemicals, making an early recovery more comfortable. In some ways, the soothing provided by massage helps to replace the same feelings the drugs provided and allow for the mind and body to connect.
Additional Private Massages are Available
Although we provide a half-hour of massage every week to our clients, some like to purchase additional time while in our care. Please speak to your intake coordinator about the cost associated with additional massage therapy sessions. We believe that when clients are more comfortable, they are more open and receptive to the other forms of therapy we provide. The many physical and psychological changes that take place in the early stages of drug and alcohol recovery can be intense, though when treated properly, can have wonderful lasting effects on the mind and body.
