Work-Flex Requirements

Extended Care

1. Full-Time Employment (or Near Full-Time)

•Clients in the Work-Flex Program should be employed full-time, typically meaning at least 30-40 hours per week. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for jobs that are just under full-time if they provide a stable structure and are in line with the client’s treatment plan.

•The job should ideally be consistent, with set hours that allow us to create a tailored therapy schedule around work obligations. This consistency helps ensure the client can attend all required treatment sessions.

2. Stability and Structure

•Employment should provide a structured, stable environment that supports the client’s recovery, rather than adding stress or instability. Jobs with regular hours and a positive work environment are ideal, as they help clients maintain a routine and reduce potential triggers.

•Certain high-stress jobs or jobs with erratic hours may not be suitable if they interfere with treatment attendance or jeopardize the client’s recovery progress. Our clinical team will work with clients to assess whether their job meets these stability requirements.

3. Verification of Employment

•To be eligible for Work-Flex, clients must provide verification of their employment. This can include documentation like an offer letter, recent pay stubs, or confirmation of employment from their employer.

•Employment verification helps us confirm that the client has a reliable and legitimate work commitment, ensuring they’re genuinely engaged in recovery while balancing work.

4. Commitment to Treatment Attendance

•Clients in Work-Flex are still required to attend all scheduled PHP or IOP sessions around their work hours. They must demonstrate a willingness to prioritize treatment, even if it requires adjustments to their work schedule.

•Consistent attendance is crucial, so the job should allow for the flexibility to attend therapy sessions as needed. For example, if a client works during the day, we’ll schedule evening therapy sessions to accommodate, but the client needs to be fully committed to this arrangement.

5. Sober and Supportive Work Environment

•The work environment should be conducive to recovery. Jobs that involve high exposure to alcohol, drugs, or other risky behaviors may not be suitable for clients in early recovery.

•Ideally, the workplace should be supportive or, at a minimum, neutral toward the client’s sobriety. Clients are encouraged to communicate their recovery journey to their employer if appropriate, so they can be transparent about the importance of maintaining a stable, sober environment.

6. Appropriate Use of Income

•Clients should demonstrate responsible use of their income, focusing on essentials like personal expenses and treatment-related costs, if applicable. Financial stability is an important part of recovery, and we encourage clients to budget wisely, avoiding spending that could jeopardize their progress.

7. Compliance with Program Rules and Random Drug Testing

•Even with the flexibility to work full-time, clients in Work-Flex are still subject to program rules, including random drug and alcohol testing. The job must not interfere with their ability to comply with these requirements.

•This ensures accountability and helps clients stay focused on recovery while balancing work responsibilities.
