Treatment at Tranquility Woods: Programs and Personal Planning

Understand how assessment, individual therapy, family participation and follow-up planning fit into the programs at Tranquility Woods.
Updated October 21, 2026

Choosing treatment involves several connected decisions: the concerns that need attention, the level of support, the place where care happens and the plan for what comes next. At Tranquility Woods, those questions help guide the conversation about a recommended program and individual treatment goals.

Start With Assessment and Your Goals

Tell the team what has been happening, what care you have tried and what you hope will change. Relevant concerns may include substance use, mental health, physical health, medication, daily responsibilities and available support. An assessment helps the team consider the appropriate starting point.

You can ask what the treatment plan will focus on, how goals are agreed and how progress will be discussed. Share practical barriers as well as clinical concerns so they can be considered during planning.

Mental Health and Substance Use Together

Dual diagnosis residential treatment addresses substance use and mental health concerns together. Primary mental health residential treatment has mental health as the primary focus. The team reviews the clinical picture when recommending a level of care.

Ask how individual therapy, group work, psychiatric support and medical care fit the recommended program. The program pages describe the current structure; your plan addresses the needs identified with the care team.

Therapy and Family Participation

Individual sessions provide time to work on your concerns and goals. Groups offer opportunities for facilitated discussion and practical skills work. Holistic activities may support that work according to the program and treatment plan.

Family participation depends on client permission, clinical appropriateness and program arrangements. Ask who may be involved, what information can be shared and what support may be useful after treatment.

Understand the Treatment Setting

Residential treatment takes place on the wooded Pasadena campus. Dual diagnosis care is provided at Original Home, River Glen One and River Glen Two; River Glen Three focuses on primary mental health. Outpatient programs and Extended Care are based in Arnold.

Review the levels of care with the team, including how much structure each provides, whether you stay overnight and what your travel or housing arrangements would involve.

Plan for Care After This Stage

Before a residential stay ends, the team helps plan follow-up care and support. PHP or IOP may be considered when that level is appropriate. Ask what is recommended, what arrangements need to be confirmed and whom to contact if your needs change.

Admissions can help you begin with the concerns you have now and explain the next steps in assessment and planning.
